Building strong, happy teams

Ben Buet discusses how team building comes in many forms, but whichever way it's delivered – the impact is immeasurable.

I started playing squash with our operations manager Jon Reed about three months ago. At first it was just a case of trying a new sport and getting fit. However, the more we played the more I found I was not only getting fitter but I was also getting great bits of advice about work and I was getting to know Jon. I also realised that whenever we returned to work from a good session on the court, I had so much more energy, and felt completely de-stressed. It helps that we are both competitive people; we push each other to be better.

Development is not just about training...

Jo Harley discusses the results of the learnpurple engagement survey, have you done yours yet?

So far nearly 400 people have logged in and completed our free engagement survey, (join the purple revolution and do it at no cost for up to 100 people today!). We always practice what we preach and so ran it ourselves, with a 100% response rate. Pretty good we thought, especially as a survey by People Pulse found that average response rates for anonymous internal surveys are 30-40% and sometimes as low as 10%.

The power of commitment and how to inspire it.

They say women strive for it, men are scared of it and most students have difficulty spelling it (I guess it's all those m's and t's). Commitment.

This week, I found myself being asked to commit, it got me thinking about this powerful word and what it means. 'Trying' can allow you to fail, 'doing' it is fine but when you commit to it, that's as if you have written in blood 'I WILL DO IT'.
